The main event being the Feria over 5 days around the 11th August each year, which is based on Spanish and Occitan culture and as well as the corrida, includes flamenco dancing, free street concerts and street parades as well as a free horse show. Others include in May the Medieval festival around the weekend in Mid May and events based on the wine and history of the regions, Beziers being the old wine capital of the Languedoc and having been occupied over the centuries by Greeks and Romans. The Canal du Midi and its 9 locks area are well worth visiting, as are the cathedral area and the plateau in front has panoramic views to the Pyrennees. The long sandy beaches are just a few minutes drive at Vendres, Valras Plage as well as Portiragnes and a quieter beach is available at Serignan plage. The Orb river also runs passed the town and the valley further up can be explored including some of the villages offering canoeing and rafting, near Murviels at Reals, or Roquebrun further upstream. |

The town of Beziers also has its markets, with Friday being the main day. There are three outdoor markets, the main flower market being on a Friday in the Allees Paul Riquet, the towns centre with its tree lined pedestrian area. There is also a food market, a small but very popular affair on Fridays in the Place d’Angers on the Rue Frederic Mistral and a busy clothing and general goods market that occupies the Place du Mars and the nearby streets, both a short walk from the Allees. The town abounds with restaurants including for those who need it two Michelin star restaurants, as well as café’s, theatres and shops. Valras as well as having good beaches, offers in the summer free evening concerts that attract large crowds.
The property is also well located for exploring the Languedoc region and the Mediterraneans sandy beaches as well of course for the mountains, lakes and rivers of the Languedoc National Park. The Olive mills at Bize Minervois and Clerment L’Herault are within 30 minutes drive, there are more wines to taste than you possibly could try this being part of the worlds largest wine region with Faugeres and St Chinian wines of particularly good quality. There is fishing on the river, windsurfing on the Lac du Salagou or on the Mediterranean, an 18 hole golf course in Beziers and Agde, canoeing, horse riding, bike hire and of course plenty to visit. These include the walled city of Carcassone and hour’s drive away, Pezenas and its cobbleds streets with its large popular Saturday market, the Pont du Gard about 2 hours drive and Barcelona is just 3 hours drive, crossing the border on the Pyrenees Mountains. The largest road bridge in the world is at Millau in the Tarn valley and within an hour and half’s drive. And of course we haven’t mentioned all the Cathar castles and villages to enjoy. |
